A first

She had found the grill to hatch her eggs.  May be a first time mother.. inexperienced.  She landed there the fourth day after we got a grill fixed on the balcony.  I had my apprehensions then itself.  The nest was flimsy and infirm.

Alas, one morning I saw a few of the straws.  The eggs were gone and the bird was gone too!! Hope she finds a firm and secure place the next time.

Hope keeps us going!!

Their new friend

Can you identify this bird? Perched on Vandita's hands!!  The children found it while playing and then on she changed hands like a passing the parcel game.  All of them were so excited. (Even me!!) .  She is sick and just did not fly. They had great plans of hosting her by turn.  Plans of making a bird house.  The excitement was unfathomable.  Then prudence prevailed.  She has been handed over to a girl who already has birds as pets at home.

Hope she gets well soon

An evening with birdy friends

A joyful evening indeed!  I had a lovely time today sipping tea on a jhoola (swing) next to my friend's birdy friends :)  Jagruti feeds them every morning and evening.  And she says they demand their day's share by making a lot of noise near her kitchen window if she delays.  Today, I was at her place and we were sipping tea on the jhoola and there they came.  Yellow billed babblers, Mynahs and a Tailor bird.  She fed them some sev (vermicelli) and then they stooped to conquer those lil' bits of sev!  It was fun watching  them.  I am so excited to share the pics here. The babblers were first to arrive.

The yellow billed babblers.  They are always in a flock of  7.  Also known as seven sisters.

Nosy and noisy.  They were shrivelled with fluffy plumage.

That yellow thing is the sev

There... she was the first to arrive

Please do bear with the quality of pics.  I only had my cell.  So pics aren't sharp

This is a beautiful one.  One sev in their bills and ready to fly

There was a pair of Mynahs and a tailor bird.  I could only click a pic of a Mynah.  The tailor bird stooped down while the biggies, the babblers were at work, pecked a sev and flew away.

They sure made my evening cuppa with Jagruti memorable.  Reminded me of another evening where I got to witness some rare moments

Peacock meaows and plumage

Hi.... Very happy to share here a few pics of peacock plumage that we witnessed while at the Palace the other day.  We had some guests visiting us and we went to the Fatehsinh museum in the Laxmi Vilas Palace precincts.  What welcomed us were the meaows of peacocks.  So loud and near.  And there were quite a few of them, pecking away in the gardens.  One of them was atop the gallery of the museum.

Pictures in the sequence below, unfolded before us and lasted less than a minute.

And now for some joyful moments, my daughter had at the lawns there :)

What a nice and joyful evening......
